Measuring farmers’ preferences for weather index insurance in the Ayeyarwady Delta, Myanmar: a discrete choice experiment approach

Abstract This study examines farmers’ preferences for weather index insurance (WII) in the Ayeyarwady Delta, Myanmar, using discrete choice experiments. It employs data taken from a survey of 317 rice farmers district Labutta Region, which was conducted March 2019. After being informed about WII and trigger conditions, were asked to answer questions on packages. The hypothetical packages consisted three attributes: types disaster that covers, coverage rate, annual premium rate. A random parameter logit model analysis responses reveals prefer covering cyclones, floods, droughts salt damage. probabilities selecting 64 calculated estimates indicate more than 50% can be expected purchase seven droughts.
